This challenge was slightly different from the challenges we have had in the past, and we think this has turned out to be a superb blog post. It’s all thanks to our amazing students. It focuses on the things our students learnt during their time with us last year. We really hope you enjoy reading about each student and thank you to all of our students who took part this week! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ni Ni<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I enrolled in London Art College in May 2024. So, it has been 8 months doing drawing and painting course. I\u2019d like to share my drawings which Heather gave feedback \u201cwell done\u201d No. 1 to 4 and my most recent work no. 5. No. 2. Person having treatment- there was a problem with side table perspective but apparently that does not detract from the scene. No. 3 boat – there was a suggestion of potential watercolour or ink wash painting. It is in my to do list. No. 4. The vase of flowers – this is the version after changing the shadows as per Heather\u2019s suggestion. Previous version had more shadows. I am now preparing for assignment 4 and learning watercolour at the moment. No 5 Italian landscape at my window is my most recent one, I hope this is ok.

Ozlem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In 2024 I received my diploma for botanical painting. I am really happy. I learned a lot, especially watercolor, and was ready to learn new techniques. Now I am \u00a0landscape painting student, learning to \u00a0use gouache and acrylic. I discovered weekend challenges meanwhile and trying to take part as much as possible to improve myself. You can find a collage of my work using gouache\/ acrylic after my new beginning. Thank you for your support and encouragement. I am very happy and grateful for being a LAC member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m very proud to be a student at London Art College. For tutors to call my work unique is the biggest compliment I can get. Thank you to the tutors at the London Art College in supporting me in what ever medium I choose to work with. Happy New Year and many thanks to both tutors and fellow students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heather K<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Well, I am quite a Newbie to the college, having only started my course at the end of October. But I feel I have learnt so much. I am studying Botanical Art in Coloured Pencil and am currently drawing in graphite only. But strangely, the lessons so far seem to have inspired me in so many other ways. I have experimented with other mediums and styles, just for a bit of variety but my confidence seems to have grown and I seem to be achieving things I never did before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are my most recent works – the pepper in graphite is for part of my course, the other two are quick drawings I made from my own photos after visiting local National Trust properties, both in pen and watercolour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Catherine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last year I leant to look properly at what I was painting, to be freer in my artwork, not to worry if I paint outside the lines and that \u201cmistakes\u201d are not mistakes but part of my artwork! I\u2019ve tried to bring this all together by painting an eye!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthony<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the most significant lessons I’ve learned in my artistic journey is the importance of layering. In the past, my approach to painting involved sketching out shapes and then filling them in with paint. However, a friend introduced me to the technique of layering paint on top of each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This method enhances a new level of depth to my work, along with creating a greater sense of solidness. Layering allows for greater complexity in colour and texture, resulting in a more dynamic and engaging composition. I’ve noticed that this technique has also loosened up my overall style, making my work feel more spontaneous and expressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attached image illustrates my current work in progress, which shows quite a literal example of the layering process in action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just signed up for a course. This is my first entry. It’s my daily practice of freehand doodling which has (and is) giving me so much more than just a sense of coordination.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
