We are absolutely thrilled to reveal the artwork created in this weekend’s art challenge on Coloured Pencil Delights. The creativity and dedication from our students have left us quite inspired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One piece that caught our eye is by student, Dave Smedley which we believe is of a Goldcrest. Dave’s artwork is a rendition of an old Leisure Painter magazine tutorial. He skilfully employed Polychromos pencils on Clairefontaine’s “paint on” paper to bring this vibrant scene to life. We are thrilled to showcase it as our featured image this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also have to mention the amazing artwork by Jane Reid who drew a human eye, which you can see below. Scroll down to read about the drawing and the pencils Jane used. Well done Jane, really fantastic artwork! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We hope that you all enjoyed this challenge. We have another one on its way, but until then, keep those coloured pencils dancing and those imaginations soaring!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eye Study in Coloured Pencil This took me just over 5 hours but it didn\u2019t feel that long ! I love doing eyes but I\u2019m hit and miss as a beginner. The scary part for me is the lashes and I\u2019ve often had to start over an entire drawing when I mess up. I used Polychromos and a total of 19 different colours for this one. For me, eyes are a great subject to get totally lost in, so absorbing, gentle and relaxing.

The picture is showing a butterflyor better a night moth called Brown Bear (Arctia caja), drawn with Faber Castell Polychromos on greenish (light green) Pastel Mat-Paper size DIN A5. The animal was found two days ago by a friend of mine and rescued as it was in danger of flying into a building. It was my first attempt of drawing on this kind of paper.
