In our latest weekend art challenge, we delved into the enchanting world of seashells and pebbles, encouraging our students to explore their textures, colours, and intricate details through painting and drawing.

Our featured image today is by student Catherine Thompson, who painted these shells while visiting Aberdovey in West Wales. To add a unique and textured effect to the background, Catherine dropped salt onto the wet paint, resulting in a sparkling, textured effect to describe the sand. It works beautifully! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another notable artwork that emerged from our weekend challenge was Serafine’s vibrant depiction of a shell she encountered during her holiday in Greece. Serafine’s painting beautifully showcases the bright hues and intricate patterns of the shell. We absolutely love it!

We would also like to mention Debbie Davadge’s contribution who cleverly painted shells on black Van Gogh paper using metallic watercolours, resulting in a striking visual effect. The interplay between the reflective quality of the metallic pigments and the dark background, adds depth and a touch of mystery to her artwork.

Well done to everyone who took part this week, stay tuned as we will have another exciting challenge to tackle tomorrow! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a painting of some shells that I found on the beach at Aberdovey on a recent holiday there. I have used pen and ink for the outline, plus watercolour and then salt for the sand effect – I decided to give the shells bright colours just for fun!
