We have added some of the text that Jane wrote to Monika to go along side the images so that studnets can read about the colours and papers that Jane used while drawing them. we hope that our readers find it useful and inspiring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/jane-tivey.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22650\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/jane-tivey.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/jane-tivey-768x1007.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pencils Used<\/strong>: Prismacolor Premier \u2013 70% French Grey,20% warm and cool greys,50% warm and cool greys, olive green, lime peel, spring green, sand, cream, peach yellow ochre, light umber, dark purple, white, cloud blue, dak umber, Tuscan red, jade green, golden rod.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coloursoft: Grey Green, dove grey, grey lavender, petrel grey, Lincoln green, lichen green, mid terracotta, Prussian blue, iced blue.\u00a0Colourless blender, electric eraser.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paper:<\/strong> 11&#215;14 white Stonehenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Comments:<\/strong> Whilst the boat is correctly placed in relation to the foreshore it is too close to the edge of the paper. I think it is in proportion to the rest of the items in the painting; I should perhaps have made all components slightly smaller to give more space at the bottom or used a larger sheet of paper!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Junk &#8211; I spent quite a lot of time just thinking about which \u2018junk\u2019 to use! In the end I decided to take the advice of a couple of people who had suggested I use junk that had some memories for me rather than just odds and ends. I chucked the objects I found into a bowl and then did some arranging to, hopefully, make them a bit more interesting to look at. I also liked the different textures they offered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"821\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/jane-tivey1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22651\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/jane-tivey1.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/jane-tivey1-768x618.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pencils used (all Derwent coloursoft unless otherwise stated as PrismPremier (PP)):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Teddy Bear: Yellow Ochre, Deep Cadmium, Touch Lemon Yellow,\u00a0Ginger Root, Cream, White Petrel Grey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sewing Kit: Golden Rod (PP), Light Sand<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matchbook: Penguin \u2013 Petrel Grey, Dove Grey, Cloud Blue (PP)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Book \u2013 Orange (PP), Prussian Blue, Indigo, Light Sand, White Grey<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Egg: Pale Orange, Blood Orange, Orange (PP), Pale Mint, Mint, Grey Green,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mid Green, Petrel Grey, Pale Blue, Indigo, Ultramarine, Violet Blue (PP),\u00a0Dark Umber<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Darning Mushroom: Pale Brown, Dark Terracotta, Ochre, Mid Terracotta, Dark Brown, Golden Rod<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rock: Pale Brown, Light Umber (PP), Ochre, Light Sand, Peach, Cream,\u00a0Sienna Brown (PP)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Key: Ochre, Brown Earth, 70% French Grey (PP)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>String: The string was created by leaving it the colour of the paper and then using dove grey to give the rope effect<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bottle: Ultramarine, Indigo, Dark Umber (PP), Pale Lavender, 20% cold grey (PP), 50% cold grey (PP), Persian Grey&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marble: Pale Blue, Ultramarine, Cloud Blue (PP)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leaf: Burnt Ochre, Peach, Terracotta (PP)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bowl: Cream, Prussian Blue, Dark Umber, Pale Brown, Light Sand, Grey Green<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Background: Indigo, Dark Umber, Cream White<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Paper used<\/strong>: Bristol vellum surface, 11\u201d by 14\u201d, 270g\/m<sup>2&nbsp; <\/sup>actual picture size: 10.5\u201d by 8.25\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Difficulties\/areas for improvement\/comments.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall I\u2019m reasonably happy with the completed painting. Using the embossing tool helped to ensure the white areas were achieved but it is also unforgiving as if you emboss in the wrong place as it is not easy to lose it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would have liked some of the objects to have looked more \u2018glossy\u2019; I did use a burnishing pencil on the rock but it hasn\u2019t really helped. The bottle definitely needs to be more \u2018glassy\u2019.I had some problems creating and maintain the roundness of the bowl; I was in danger of making it thinner and thinner if I wasn\u2019t careful!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I would estimate about 20 hours overall for this painting; as the painting sits on an easel in my conservatory I can fairly easily nip in and do bits if I see something that doesn\u2019t look right so keeping a tally of these odd 15 minutes can be difficult!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#4f697e\">If you would like to receive a roundup of all of our blog posts once a week to keep you inspired in your inbox, why not sign up to our newsletter.
