{"id":22131,"date":"2022-05-03T06:35:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-03T06:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/?p=22131"},"modified":"2022-05-01T14:02:44","modified_gmt":"2022-05-01T14:02:44","slug":"maggie-hanson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/2022\/05\/maggie-hanson\/","title":{"rendered":"Maggie Hanson"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p id=\"x_m_1285703025421712793m_-4935825089072336382docs-internal-guid-d1f75059-7fff-a095-e36e-272a76e9b78e\">My family lives on a farm, and we\u2019ve had chickens for around six years, so when I saw that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.londonartcollege.co.uk\/art-courses\/illustration\/\">Illustration<\/a> assignment was to illustrate chickens, I knew I wanted to play around a bit with their characterization. In my experience, though chickens are quite animated and move in a very comical manner, their faces always seem to be completely devoid of emotion. Yet, they have distinct personalities, often related to their place in the pecking order, and they are incredibly expressive in sound and body language. All this to say, I find them to be hilarious and dramatic creatures, and I wanted to display this in my artwork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My sketches had ended up looking a bit stiff, and I was struggling to bring them to life in the way I had hoped. Then, I remembered Fragonard\u2019s painting, <em>The Swing.<\/em> I could almost immediately see a chicken\u2019s plumage in the woman\u2019s puffy skirt, a feather in place of the shoe flying off her foot. When I realized the statues already had wings, I knew I could make this work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I then searched for another painting that would both showcase chicken\u2019s love of mirrors and fit the required dimensions for the illustration. The last supper was what immediately came to mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I spent the entirety of the next few days hunched over my iPad, illustrating my silly idea, and I enjoyed every minute of it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This course has been an absolute delight, and Steven\u2019s feedback has been incredibly encouraging.
