In this jubilee year, the art world has inspired lots of talented individuals to participate in art competitions with Britain at the heart of their theme. New student, Julie Ann\u00a0Maguire, who joined the Portraiture Certificate course in January this year, took a little time out recently from her studies at London Art College and entered a still life \u00a0rendering in coloured pencil for the Leisure Painters \u201cBest of Britain\u201d competition.<\/p>\n

Last week she received some brilliant news that her painting, \u201cJubilee in Isolation\u201d \u00a0has won first prize in this national art magazine\u2019s competition. With her course studies almost complete, Julie has also become a member of the United Kingdom Coloured Pencil Society (UKCPS) and intends to enrol onto the LAC\u2019s Coloured Pencil Certificate course in the near future.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to develop my art skills further and, as a full-time housewife and part-time working mum, I find CP to be an ideal\u00a0medium that allows me to express my creativity.\u201d Julie will receive a \u00a3500 Jubilee Commemorative Box from Derwent Pencils and her prizewinning entry can be \u00a0viewed online. The winning image will also be featured in the January 2013 edition of the Leisure Painter.
