Welcome to our scary results for this weekends art challenge on the theme of Halloween!! Our feature image this week is by student Pauline Burke who created a very atmospheric and clever way of portraying lots of glowing pumpkins in the dark! We love it! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also wanted to mention Nina Phillips who made a fantastic Halloween card which you can see below too. Everyone’s work is amazing and we can’t thank you enough for taking the time in doing these for us. We hope you had a bit of fun along the way too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this weekend\u2019s challenge I\u2019ve made a Halloween card. I\u2019ve reused the card from an old cereal box and covered it with black paper.The pumpkin and cat are hand drawn. Children\u2019s paints and gold and silver metallic pens have been used to outline. The background is decorated with a silver border, bat, stars and Halloween stickers. The cat has been made to pop out.

At early All Souls\u2019 Day parades in England, during the festivities, poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called \u201csoul cakes\u201d in return for their promise to pray for the family\u2019s dead relatives.  Sometimes the cakes had holes in the centre, symbolising eternity; apple-bobbing is also associated with Halloween, probably going back to the Roman festival for Poloma, the goddess of fruit and trees also at this time of year.
