NEW ROYAL ART AWARD<\/p>\n

In 2001 His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales became Patron of the Royal
\nSociety of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers (RMS). The Society is
\ndelighted to announce that His Royal Highness has generously approved an
\naward scheme to be named “The Prince of Wales Award for Outstanding
\nMiniature Painting”.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth Meek, the Society’s President, said: \u00a0“The Society is extremely
\nproud and honoured by His Royal Highness’ further support and I am sure this
\naward will be much coveted by the winning recipient.”<\/p>\n

The inaugural award will be presented at the 2012 RMS Annual Open
\nExhibition, which takes place at the Mall Galleries, The Mall, London
\nbetween 16 to 28 October.<\/p>\n

Artists wishing to submit work for the exhibition can find full details on
\nthe Society’s website:\u00a0www.royal-miniature-society.org.uk<\/wbr><\/a>\u00a0or can write to
\nthe Executive Secretary, Patricia \u00a0Houchell, 119 Dunstans Road, London
\nSE22 0HD. \u00a0Founded in 1896 by Welsh-born artist Alyn Williams (1865-1941)
\nand granted its Royal Charter in 1904 by King Edward VII, RMS exhibition is
\ninternationally accepted as the premier \u00a0showcase for contemporary miniature
\nart.<\/p>\n

With quality at the forefront, the event is a magnet for artists from
\naround the world with last year’s show featuring work from America,
\nAustralia, the Middle East and Russia. While the traditional subject matter
\nof portraiture continues unabated, today’s miniaturists incorporate an
\neclectic mix of subject matter, \u00a0including landscapes, still life, marine,
\ninteriors and wildlife. Small, stunning sculpture is also shown.<\/p>\n

The past decade has witnessed a significant revival of interest in
\ncontemporary miniatures and this has been well reflected in the RMS
\nexhibitions which now attracts thousands of visitors, with the past three
