We are thrilled to be able to display them here and have added some text to go along side to enable our students to read about the ideas behind the paintings. We wish Emma the best of luck with her artwork and website. Emma thanked her tutor Monica Cilmi below&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>I intend to use the skills I have now to make sumi e paintings for my haiku and put them on my website. \u00a0 Thank you Monika for your guidance and help in finishing this course.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Koi<\/strong> <strong>Fish and Duckweed<\/strong>. There were not many good examples of koi paintings using the style shown on the course PDF so I used this as a guide for my final painting. Turned out quite well I thought.\u00a0 The colour on the back of the Koi could have been stronger however.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur3-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18022\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur3-1.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur3-1-768x1016.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For my final piece <strong>Mountain Meditation<\/strong> (see large file)\u00a0 I wanted to paint something more personal.\u00a0 I walk in the mountains on a regular basis and am a trained mountain guide.\u00a0 I have been lucky enough to see eagles in the mountains.\u00a0 The mountains are my special place for meditating and writing haiku.\u00a0 This painting which I called \u2018Mountain Meditation\u2019 was painted for a haiku I wrote.\u00a0 The painting is simplistic but I feel it puts forward an atmosphere of calm and of being at one with nature in the mountains which is what I wanted to achieve.\u00a0 I used an ink stick for this piece as it gives more gradation than ink from a bottle.\u00a0 I used silk paper.\u00a0 I like the composition although I would have liked to have seen more precision in my brush strokes.\u00a0 I used a very fine paintbrush so I am unsure of how to improve.\u00a0 I have also tried to create a misty affect between the mountains in the distance with the plateau.\u00a0 However, I need to find a YouTube video with this technique to help me acquire it. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"947\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur2-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18023\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur2-1.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur2-1-768x713.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For my final Piece<strong> \u2018Lotus and Butterfly<\/strong> (see large file)\u00a0 I decided to use subtle colours for the flower using\u00a0 pinks and greys to enable the butterfly to take centre stage.\u00a0 I quite liked how this one turned out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1276\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur1-1.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur1-1-768x961.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For my final piece on the next page I choose <strong>Poppies and Bees<\/strong> (See large file).\u00a0 Poppies are so beautiful and I have always wanted to paint them.\u00a0 The painting is my own composition although I used inspiration from several sumi e paintings.\u00a0 I am quite pleased with this painting as I feel the greens are better.\u00a0 I used a lot less paint.\u00a0 I also mixed and tested the colour each time I reloaded the brush.\u00a0 I used a combination of Windsor and Newton watercolour paints as well as Talons Gouche paints for this piece.\u00a0 It is painted on Hahnemuhle Sumi-e paper, 80 g.\u00a0 This is my favourite paper at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1020\" height=\"1338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18030\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur-2.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/www.london-artcollege.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Emma-Arthur-2-768x1007.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#4f697e\">If you would like to receive a roundup of all of our blog posts once a week to keep you inspired in your inbox, why not sign up to our newsletter.
