We are delighted to share two wonderful pieces from London Art College student Tina Carroll, who is studying our Pet Portraits Diploma Course with tutor, Heather Jolliffe. These two portraits come from the same assignment, one drawn in coloured pencil and one painted in water mixable oils. Together they show just how confidently Tina is working across two very different mediums.
The first is a head study in coloured pencil, worked on a dark background that makes the colours absolutely glow. The rich russet and white coat has been built up in layers, with every stroke following the direction of the fur, and the wispy feathering on the ears flicks out beautifully into the background.
The second piece is a full body portrait in oils. Tina has painted the dogs thick white ruff and brown coat with lively, confident brushwork that captures the fluffiness of the fur, while the cool greys of the bark give a lovely contrast underneath. The soft, blurred woodland behind, with its dappled pools of light, pushes the dog forward and gives the whole painting a wonderful sense of depth.
Tina has captured the personality of both dogs beautifully. these are a real joy to see, and we look forward to following the rest of her diploma journey.
