There is something genuinely magical about what artists can do. The ability to take a blank piece of paper, a brush, a pen, or even a handful of berries, and create something that makes you stop, look twice, and wonder how on earth they did it. The five pieces here are pure magic, every single one of them created by our students.
A tiny watercolour of Ferrero Rocher chocolates, painted with precision that the real chocolate sitting alongside it almost looks like the copy. The crinkled gold foil, the textured hazelnut surface, the paper case, all rendered in watercolour with a skill that feels frankly impossible.
A zentangle rabbit, its familiar form filled from ear to chin with an intricate world of patterns, grids, dots and leaves, turning a simple animal portrait into something you could spend an hour exploring.
A silhouette of a the late Queens profile, and within it, not shadow or colour but an entire landscape, rolling hills, stone buildings, trees and sky, a whole world living inside a single outline.
A quick sketch of a little girl whose hair is made entirely from real red berries, arranged with a lightness of touch that is both completely simple and utterly delightful.
And two figures drawn in ballpoint pen on the lined pages of a notebook, the lines of the paper becoming part of the composition itself, transforming the most ordinary everyday material into something quietly extraordinary.
Each of these pieces does what only art can do. It takes something you think you understand and shows you something you never expected to see. It bends reality just enough to make you catch your breath.
That is the magic of art. And it is available to everyone.
