Maren Masberg

We are delighted to share some of the beautiful work produced by Maren Masberg, who is currently studying on our Watercolour Diploma Course with tutor Steven Hersey.

What makes Maren’s work so impressive is the sheer breadth of what she has tackled and the thoughtfulness she brings to every piece. From crisp, luminous winter landscapes with birch trees and snow covered fields, to atmospheric cottage scenes and intimate figurative work, she has embraced each challenge with real ambition and care. The winter scenes in particular are quite magical, with beautifully handled cold light, delicate shadows across the snow, and tiny figures that give each composition a lovely sense of scale and quiet narrative.

Equally striking is the process work Maren has shared alongside her finished paintings. Her sketchbooks reveal a student who thinks carefully about composition, tonal values and focal points before ever picking up a brush, working through multiple studies and colour explorations with impressive rigour. The tender beach scene of a father and child is a particular highlight, full of warmth and stillness, and her studies of a little white cottage show how much she has developed her understanding of light, atmosphere and counterchange.

Maren started the course as a complete beginner, and the confidence and sensitivity already visible in her watercolours are a real testament to her dedication and enthusiasm. We wish her the best of luck on the next stage of her painting journey.
