Monday Art Musings – Staying Creative When the Days Feel Shorter

As the days grow shorter, energy levels can shift. Evenings feel darker and it can be harder to find the motivation to sit down and make art.

This change is natural, and it is okay to adjust your expectations.

Creativity does not need to look the same all year round. In darker months, shorter sessions or quieter work may feel more manageable. Sketching, planning or simply observing can all count as creative activity.

Working with artificial light or choosing subjects suited to indoor spaces can also help. There is no need to fight the season. Letting your practice adapt can make it easier to continue.

Staying creative in autumn is not about doing more. It is about doing what feels possible.

If you would like a gentle prompt to help you keep going, our Weekend Art Challenges, shared here on the blog every Friday, offer simple themes that fit well into shorter days.

Creativity does not disappear with the light. It simply changes pace.
