Weekend Art Challenge – Spring Flowers

Welcome to this week’s Weekend Art Challenge, and what better time for it than when spring is truly making itself known!

This week we are inviting you to celebrate the season by drawing or painting Spring Flowers. Step outside, look through your window, or gather a few stems to set up indoors, because right now nature is putting on one of its finest displays and it is crying out to be painted.

Your subject could be anything that captures the spirit of spring in bloom. A sunny cluster of daffodils in a vase, their cheerful trumpets catching the light. A bold and beautiful tulip, with those wonderfully smooth, cupped petals that are such a satisfying challenge to paint. Or perhaps the delicate magic of blossom, cherry, apple or pear, with its soft clouds of pale pink and white against a bright spring sky.

If you have a garden or an allotment, why not step outside and paint what you see? Pots of spring bulbs on a doorstep, a border coming back to life, a tangle of branches just beginning to flower. A simple arrangement on a windowsill works just as beautifully. This challenge suits every medium, but if you work in watercolour, spring flowers are an absolute gift, think soft washes for petals, wet into wet for blossom, and those gorgeous yellows and greens that feel made for the season.

However you choose to interpret the theme, we would love to see your work. Send your entries to techsupport@londonartcollege.co.uk and we will look forward to sharing them on the blog.
