This week, we’re heading to the coast, at least in spirit! Your challenge is to create a piece of artwork based on Seaside Finds. Think of all the treasures you might spot or collect while walking along the beach. Scallop shells, spirals of seaweed, pebbles worn smooth by the waves, fragments of driftwood, feathers left by seabirds, or the glint of sea glass catching the sun.
Whether you live near the sea or are reminiscing about childhood holidays, this is a lovely chance to capture the textures, colours and quiet magic of the shoreline.
Ideas to explore:
- A close-up still life of a shell or pebble collection
- A sun-bleached feather in the sand
- Beachcomber treasures arranged like a natural collage
- Sketches from life or memory
- Abstract or expressive interpretations of beach finds
Mediums:
Anything goes! You can go delicate with pencil or pen and ink, build up rich textures with watercolour or pastel, or even explore mixed media or collage if you fancy something a bit tactile. We can’t wait to see what you find and create!

The idea of these challenges is to help students improve their skills by drawing, painting and creating regularly.
So try to submit work that you have created specifically for the challenge – or course work you are currently creating for your art course. Sometimes our challenge themes cross over with what students are learning. Our challenges are great practive for your coursework too!
Remember to submit your artwork to us via email if you would like it posted on our blog next week.

Email your artwork to us for inclusion on the blog next week. We sometimes take challenge posts submitted to our Facebook group to add to the collection, however we may miss some, so if you really want to see your work here, make sure you email it to us!

All students can take part and they can post their artwork on our main Facebook Group to share with fellow students.
