We are delighted to share some colourful and imaginative illustrations by student Jacqueline Prothero, who completed our Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma. Jacqueline’s work captures a joyful energy and a clear sense of storytelling. We love ‘The Tortoise Who Wanted to Fly’ illustration, its so happy and jolly, we feel it would work beautifully in a children’s book. Plenty of movement and lots going on, enough to capture a little ones imagination.
Jacqueline has also created a series of faces, each portraying a different emotion or personality trait. From “Jolly” and “Posh” to “Worried” and “Sad.” These types of facial studies are a great way to build confidence in drawing expressions and are an important skill in children’s book illustration, where characters need to clearly convey feeling, often with very simple lines.

The Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma is ideal for students who want to explore storytelling through imagery. The course covers the fundamentals of illustration, including character development, scene creation, composition, and even how to prepare a portfolio. It’s a flexible, self-paced course suitable for both beginners and more experienced artists looking to refine their skills.
If you have ever dreamed of illustrating your own story or working on children’s books, this course could be the perfect place to begin. You can find more information and enrol on our Illustrating Children’s Books Diploma Course.
