Susan Tempest joined the Pet Portraits Diploma Course with a clear goal, to improve her skills in drawing and painting animals and her progress throughout the course has been genuinely impressive.
Although Susan describes herself as relatively new to art, having taken it up more seriously over the past couple of years, her work shows a growing understanding of structure, colour and character. From expressive dog portraits to sensitive studies of horses and wildlife, Susan’s paintings demonstrate careful observation and an increasing confidence with paint handling.
Susan has also embraced the learning process fully, responding thoughtfully to feedback and pushing herself with each new assignment. Her enjoyment of painting animals really shines through, and it is clear she has gained both technical skill and self-belief as the course has progressed.
The Pet Portraits Diploma Course is taught by professional pet portrait artist Heather Jolliffe and is designed to guide students step by step through the fundamentals of animal anatomy, fur textures, colour mixing and composition. The course is suitable for beginners as well as those looking to refine their existing skills, with personalised tutor feedback throughout.
Susan’s work is a lovely reminder that you do not need decades of experience to create meaningful, engaging art—just the willingness to learn, practise and enjoy the process.
We would like to congratulate Susan on her progress and thank her for sharing her artwork with us. We very much look forward to seeing how her pet portraits continue to develop in the future.
