This weekend’s art challenge focused on a much loved subject – Penguins. We absolutely love the artwork submitted… what an amazing collection we have below! Penguins are deceptively simple subjects, yet they require close attention to form, proportion and marking, all of which are handled well by our students this week.
Weekend Art Challenges are designed to encourage regular practice and exploration. This set of work demonstrates how a straightforward theme can produce varied results. Each piece reflects our students taking time to observe, interpret and develop their work.
Well done to everyone who took part. A new Weekend Art Challenge will be launching tomorrow, and we look forward to seeing the next set of submissions.
I decided to combine some cute but terrified penguins with a peacock spider. I tried to give the penguins the same level of fear I would have if I was in front of this spider …. Though maybe the spider feels the same way faced with giant screaming monsters like these? Which is why I gave him some Adidas trainers, so he could run! Emperor Penguin – I had a go at the penguin challenge! The reason I thought I would like to try was that, as you say, penguins are very clear in their form and I thought that would be a good challenge for me to attempt in watercolour.
