Expressive Landscape Painting by Radmila Ristic

This striking landscape painting by Radmila Ristic was completed as part of our Drawing and Painting Diploma Course and demonstrates a confident, expressive approach to colour and mark-making.

Radmila has used a bold, autumnal palette dominated by rich oranges, yellows, and deep blues to create a vibrant woodland scene full of movement and energy. The surface is highly textured, with thick applications of paint and decisive, gestural strokes that give the work a strong sense of rhythm and depth.

Rather than describing every detail, the painting focuses on atmosphere and feeling. Vertical marks suggest tree trunks pushing up through the composition, while broken colour and layered paint evoke foliage and light filtering through the canopy. The contrast between the warm leaf tones and the cooler blues creates visual tension and helps pull the viewer into the scene.

Our Drawing and Painting Diploma Course is designed to help students build strong foundations in drawing and painting while encouraging experimentation and expressive development. Through structured projects and detailed tutor feedback, students explore a wide range of techniques, materials, and approaches, allowing their individual style to emerge naturally over time.
