Lucy Hammond

if you have been following our blog for a while, you will know that we have been featuring the amazing work by student Lucy Hammond. Lucy has continued showed just how versatile an illustrator she is. This stage of the course asked her to respond to a series of real world style briefs, requiring not only creativity but also clarity of communication.

One of her projects was Magic Beans, a coffee shop that also doubles as a magic store. Lucy developed playful and colourful designs that balanced the warmth of café culture with magical motifs, resulting in a logo that feels both eye catching and memorable.

She also worked on Ant Computer Developments, a brief that called for a simple but strong visual identity for a small IT company. Her designs focused on clarity and adaptability, ensuring that the logo would work effectively across different media, from websites and stationery to uniforms.

Her third project involved creating a vibrant t-shirt design for Rhiwbina Runners, a local running group celebrating its 10th anniversary with a special relay event. Lucy combined the group’s existing logo with fresh colours and a fun, energetic style to capture the celebratory spirit of the occasion.

Each of these projects required Lucy to think carefully about client needs, branding, and design functionality. Her tutor, Steven Hersey, praised the creativity and polish of her submissions, noting how well she rose to the challenges set by each brief.

It is inspiring to see how Lucy has approached these varied design tasks with imagination and professionalism, producing work that would not be out of place in a professional illustration portfolio.
