Carol Wong

We are thrilled to share another stunning assignment from Carol Wong, a student studying on our Botanical Painting Diploma.

The focus on this set of work was in Pen & Ink, combined with watercolour. Carol chose to illustrate a Hibiscus syriacus, producing a series of studies that show her progress from detailed line work to beautifully coloured final pieces. Her work demonstrates not only technical skill but also the ability to capture the life and character of the plant.

Carol’s PDF submission was just as inspiring to read as well as to view as last time. She included her research into the hibiscus plant, details of the materials she used, and step-by-step notes on her process. She also reflected on the difficulties she faced when learning pen and ink, particularly when tackling leaves and natural flowing strokes. After much perseverance and many practice attempts, she found a technique that gave her work a timeless, vintage quality.

The finished hibiscus studies show her patience and dedication, and it is wonderful to see her work framed and presented so beautifully.

Congratulations to Carol on another excellent assignment — her botanical illustrations are progressing wonderfully and we cannot wait to see more of her future studies. Very exciting!!
