Weekend Art Challenge – Wild Flowers

This weekend’s theme is “Wild flowers.” For this challenge, we would like you to take inspiration from wildflowers – whether you find them growing in the garden, spot them on a walk, or choose from a reference photo. Wildflowers can be delicate and simple or bright and bold, and they make a wonderful subject for both drawing and painting.

You could capture a single stem, a small cluster, or even a little patch of meadow flowers. Look closely at their shapes, colours, and the way they sit together. Some wildflowers have striking symmetry, while others are charmingly irregular – both are lovely to explore in art.

You can work in any medium you enjoy: pencil, watercolour, coloured pencil, acrylic, pastel, or mixed media. Keep it detailed, or go loose and expressive – the choice is yours.

Tutor’s Tip: Try picking (or photographing) a few different wildflowers and arranging them on a sheet of paper before you begin. Studying how they overlap and interact will give you ideas for composition and balance.

We are looking forward to seeing your beautiful wildflower studies and how you capture the natural charm of these little blooms. Good luck and have fun!

The idea of these challenges is to help students improve their skills by drawing, painting and creating regularly.
