Lucy Hammond

We are excited to introduce Lucy Hammond, a student on the Illustration Diploma Course with tutor Steven Hersey. Lucy’s first assignment submission left a real impression on her tutor:

“She submitted her first assignment a few days ago and it was quite astounding in quality – one of the very best that I have seen for a long time. If she continues like this throughout the course, she will be an exceptional illustrative artist.” – Steven Hersey

For her first assignment, Lucy combined text, imagery, and creative interpretation of song lyrics, producing strikingly imaginative illustrations inspired by The Cure, Scissor Sisters, and Jeff Buckley. Each piece demonstrates her ability to weave narrative, atmosphere, and concept together with expressive drawing and printmaking techniques.

It is clear from these works that Lucy already has a highly individual voice as an illustrator. Her use of composition, character development, and text integration makes her illustrations not only visually engaging but also deeply atmospheric.

We are looking forward to seeing how Lucy develops her skills further on the course.
