This weekend, we are embracing all things summer for our latest art challenge! The theme is “Summer Holidays” and we want you to go bold and colourful. Think golden sunshine, blue skies, and joyful scenes that capture the very best of summertime (and let’s just pretend there is absolutely no rain here in the UK…!).
We have a few ideas to spark your imagination:
- A Summer Garden – bursting with flowers, vegetables, bees, or even a cat stretched out in the sun.
- Children in the Garden – paddling pools, picnics on the grass, toys scattered across the lawn.
- Summer on the Beach – deck chairs, sandcastles, sunhats, dogs racing along the tide, or just colourful umbrellas dotting the sand.
- Summer Heatwave – ice cream melting, lazy afternoons, fans whirring in windows, or people cooling off in fountains or under trees.
- Summer Picnic – strawberries, lemonade, picnic blankets, parasols, and cheerful gingham patterns.
- Or anything else that says “summer holidays” to you!

You can work in any medium, but we would love to see lots of colour in your submissions, whether that’s with paint, pastels, coloured pencils, digital art, or mixed media. We are looking for artwork that feels happy, sunny, and full of warmth.

Let your imagination run wild and have fun! We cannot wait to see how you bring the sunshine to life in your artwork.

Email your artwork to us for inclusion on the blog next week. We sometimes take challenge posts submitted to our Facebook group to add to the collection, however we may miss some, so if you really want to see your work here, make sure you email it to us!

The idea of these challenges is to help students improve their skills by drawing, painting and creating regularly.
So try to submit work that you have created specifically for the challenge – or course work you are currently creating for your art course. Sometimes our challenge themes cross over with what students are learning. Our challenges are great practive for your coursework too!
Remember to submit your artwork to us via email if you would like it posted on our blog next week.

All of the photos we post on our London Art College Weekend Challenges are copyright free. Feel free to use the artwork you produce however you wish.
