Weekend Art Challenge Results – Summer Holidays!

This week’s art challenge theme was Summer Holidays and our students have captured the season beautifully. From beach huts and ice cream to sunflowers and seagulls. Each artwork tells its own story of summer – whether that be a favourite memory, a peaceful day or simply a seasonal mood.

Thank you to everyone who took part this week. If you have not joined in yet, why not give the next challenge a go? We post them every Friday on the blog and would love to see your artwork too.

Also – don’t forget we have opened our London Art College 2025 Competition. Enter today!

Here’s my piece for the Summer Holidays weekend challenge. It’s based on the ice cream reference photo that was included. It’s made using pastel and pen and ink. If you look carefully, there are some summer holiday words in the ice cream itself!!

Here is my drawing of an ice cream cone, drawn using my Faber Castell Polychromas coloured pencils. I’ve been using these pencils since doing the LAC Botanical coloured pencils course. I’ve just drawn a kingfisher and am really pleased with it. Now trying a woodpecker.
Thanks LAC for getting me started!

I am sending to you piece of art for summer holiday challenge. I am exploring colors.

I haven’t drawn or painted ice cream. So I did a small one on 10×15 cm watercolour paper with light moulding paste which I got from a local pastel demonstration event. With soft pastel sticks. Enjoy your summer holiday! Eat ice cream!

I made an experiment when drawing this water gun in that I first drew it from memory (No, I’m not showing that one). When I drew it a second time, while looking, I found it helped quite a lot to have drawn it from memory first. Drawn with ink liner and Tombow brush pen.

I named this one “Summer Day with Granddaughter,” the day being full of her vibrancy and joy. Drawn with ink liner and Tombow brush pen.
