Welcome to this weekends art challenge where we set our students a very straightforward brief – draw or paint your art materials. Just the tools you love and use every day. Pencils, brushes, paint tubes, palettes. The things that often get left out of the spotlight, despite doing all the hard work.
And what a brilliant selection we have had. From thick oils and confident watercolours to pencil sketches and even a castle made of ink bottles! Everyone took the theme in their own direction. Some were precise and observational, others added a creative twist and all showed real thought and effort.
The aim of these challenges is to keep the momentum going, to encourage regular practice and push ideas. You don’t need hours or perfection. Just pick something up and make a start. Scroll down to see this week’s artwork. And if you haven’t taken part yet …. why not join in next time?

CHAOS
This is my desk. It sits in my conservatory, with plenty of light and inspiration from my beautiful garden. In one pot, I have my collection of watercolour pencils, in another, my paint brushes. But my first love are my pencils, especially my polychromos. Scattered around are various rubbers, dividers, magnifying glasses, sharpeners, my current project (begonias), sketch book, assignment work….. Told you it was chaos. Organised chaos of course!
