Serena Carter

Serena Carter, one of our London Art College students, has tackled something a bit different for her latest piece. A large scale wall drawing and painting! She’s taken a practical and creative approach to scaling up her artwork, using sticky notes to map things out and make sure everything stays in proportion. The final result is a striking mural that really makes use of the space. It’s great to see students exploring new formats and thinking outside the sketchbook. Scroll down to see her progress photos and finished piece.

The wall is 5mtrs long 3.5mtrs high. I wanted something that looked a bit like a charcoal sketch but painted. I did lots  of preliminary sketches…and hung them on my  working wall (timber wall in studio)

Left them for couple months ….kept looking to see what caught my eye. Then did a few practice sketches on 3M…sticky notes paper…..it’s about 1mtr….and the top 2inches are sticky. Perfect for placing in mural wall. This really helped with proportion and enlarging. Then braved it…..and started sketching on wall in charcoal pencil…..

Decided it needed but of colour and shape…added the muted olive ….

Drew over colour in white charcoal…

To finish wall….used posca paint pens..
