Catherine Thompson

We are thrilled to showcase this stunning piece by London Art College student Catherine, who took inspiration from our blog feature “10 Famous Artworks You Can Recreate at Home”. Catherine recreated the Irises painting by Vincent van Gogh and we love it!

Catherine’s painting not only pays homage to a master, but also showcases her growing confidence with expressive brushwork and colour mixing. A brilliant study and a testament to how classic works can inspire fresh, personal interpretations. Well done, Catherine!

I was inspired by the article “10 famous artworks you can recreate at home” – I chose the irises (even though it was not among the 10 chosen) as I have tried to recreate this before but failed! It’s not an exact copy as I didn’t draw it out, but I under-painted roughly in acrylic first before using oil paints. I used board but will perhaps paint a version using the irises in my garden on canvas, as I think canvas will hold the thicker paint better.
