IMPORTANT
You must save your files as JPEGS otherwise your tutor may not be able to open your pictures.
Digital camera photographs are automatically saved in the JPEG format. Photos will be transferred onto your computer in the correct JPEG format at which point you can use your software program of choice to resize and crop if necessary, before sending to your course artist.
When you scan your artwork you may find that on saving the image your software chooses a file type other then JPEG to save it as. The problem here is that the file type it chooses for you, may be specific to that program. Anyone wishing to view this file, who does not have that software program may not be able to open it. If this is the case with your software program, you will need to tell it to save the file as a jpeg.
Saving your files as JPEGS
To save your file as a JPEG in your phot editing software, go to 'File', 'Save As'. An example of saving your file as a JPEG is below. If you look at the screen capture, the bottom drop down list, often called 'save type as' will let you choose from a variety of file types. It may be set as default for the programs own file type as you can see below.

You need to :-
- Choose the JPEG option from the drop down list,
- Name your picture,
- You need to choose the destination and make sure that you are saving in your My Documents folder, or your own specified folder.
- Press SAVE
Exporting your Pictures
Some software programs do not have the JPEG file type as an option when using 'File' 'Save As'. If this is the case, you may find an export option in the list. The procedure of exporting will be the same as above.
Photo editing software programs have very intuitive help files. If you seem to be having problems with your program, read your softwares help file about saving and exporting your pictures.
